I have been working on a design challenge of making a prototype of a possible solution for the problem of ocean plastics, littering, and over-use of single-use plastics.
I started by researching the issue of ocean plastics and learning about current solutions. Next, I proposed three ideas.
I picked the idea of creating shoes directly from recycled plastic to prototype. I originally was planning to use recycled plastic water bottles, but the plastic of water bottles did not seem comfortable enough for shoes. I decided to cut plastic shopping bags into strips and crochet the strips into shoes. Plastic strips are very uncomfortable to crochet, and I ended up getting big blisters on my fingers. I used 1.5 orange nike bags as the sole and for the laces. I used about 7 small clear/white bags for the rest of the shoe.
